The MFA are pleased to announce, the appointment of Mr Joakim Ollén, Ordförande of Sportfiskarna, and Mr Orri Vigfússon, founder and chairman of the North Atlantic Salmon Fund (NASF) to the board of the MFA There is no doubt, that the presence of Joakim Ollén with his influence in the Swedish sport fishing scene and Orri Vigfússon with his international prominence, will greatly benefit the MFA. The MFA are grateful and appreciate, that Mr Joakim Ollén and Mr Orri Vigfússon feel confident that the MFA is a worthy, and the right organization to be involved with.
We never thought we would see the day, when ten fish out of eleven caught on April 20th, would be released back to the river unharmed. And even though there is no clear "catch & release" policy. The MFA are pleased to note, that the sport fishermen who fish the Mörrumsån feel as concerned as the MFA. In helping to prevent further declines in the natural and generic salmon and sea trout stocks by releasing more unharmed fish back to the river.
Except for our members, we asked ourselves, just how much support do the MFA have, as "actions speak louder than words" Well until recently, we were not sure, but now we find the MFA have support coming in from everywhere. Who would have thought, that after only 17 months, we would be where we are at today. The MFA could not have achieved much without the support of its members, the MFA board and many others too many to mention here.
Let's move on, what can we expect regarding the salmon fishing this year. Well we hope that those we are supporting most will get what we all want..................good runs of salmon. But let's get real here, the nets men will concentrate their efforts and will "over fish" knowing, its only a matter of time before their commercial netting operations will have to stop. So in all probability, the numbers of salmon coming into the river this year will be less than last year. However, it would be great news, to find out we are wrong, and the salmon flood into the river, it would be great news for all.
Assuming the worst, then those that we support most will need further support. There is an old Danish saying; "Smile on the way up, because you will need back those smiles on the way down!
A little history on the MFA here
Correction: We advise all our readers, that the credit for the "Economic Impact Survey" as mentioned in a newspaper article here. Does not go to the MFA, but to Mr Erik Erlandsson-Hammargren, survey director, and Mr Robin Hiltunen and Mr Tomas Klevfors of the Folkhögskola, Bräkne-Hoby
The MFA apologize for any misunderstanding
